PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND POSITION OVERVIEW 

Global Community Charter School (GCCS) is a Harlem-based International Baccalaureate (IB) World School that is innovative, inquiry-based, and culturally competent, providing students with a rigorous curriculum that fosters critical and creative thinking. The Social Media and Marketing Consultant will support the school’s mission by developing and executing strategic communication campaigns that amplify the GCCS brand, celebrate student and staff achievements, and deepen engagement with families and the broader community. This role requires a dynamic storyteller and strategic thinker who is passionate about equity in education and skilled in leveraging digital platforms to build a powerful and cohesive school narrative.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

The Social Media and Marketing Consultant will work on a part-time, contracted basis to support the school’s strategic communication and branding efforts. Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute a tailored social media strategy that aligns with the school’s mission, core values, and enrollment objectives.
  • Create, curate, and schedule compelling content across digital platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn) to highlight school events, culture, student achievements, and community engagement.
  • Design and manage digital marketing efforts to support student recruitment, fundraising campaigns, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Collaborate with school leadership and staff to collect stories, images, and key updates for promotion across platforms.
  • Monitor social media engagement, respond to messages/comments, and foster a positive online presence for the school.
  • Track performance metrics and provide regular reporting on reach, engagement, and effectiveness of campaigns.
  • Maintain and update the school website content in coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • Produce branded collateral such as flyers, digital newsletters, enrollment materials, and event announcements.
  • Ensure all digital communications reflect a cohesive and professional brand identity.
  • Remain informed on relevant trends and best practices in education marketing, digital storytelling, and family engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Availability for on-site visits or school events in Upper Manhattan (Harlem) on a weekly basis
  • Proven experience (3+ years) in social media management, digital marketing, or communications—preferably in education, nonprofits, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to craft engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with key platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube) and scheduling tools (e.g., Buffer, Hootsuite, Later, and others, where applicable).
  • Graphic design skills and experience using tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar for branded content creation.
  • Proficiency with website content management systems (e.g., Squarespace, Wix, WordPress).
  • Ability to analyze engagement data and adjust strategy based on insights.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills; comfortable working independently and in partnership with school leadership.
  • Experience working in a school or other nonprofit organizations is preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
